Accountabilities:

• Conducts analysis of organizational needs and goals for the development and implementation of application systems.
• Reviews and analyzes large-scale systems.
• Keen eye to performance improvement initiatives. Strong analytical skills to understand current functionality of an application and perform tweaks to improve efficiency.
• Analyzes, defines and documents requirements for data, workflow, logical processes, interface design, internal and external checks, controls, and outputs.
• Writes documentation that describes solution.
• Is accountable for the ongoing support of application systems in production including problem analysis, resolution, and escalation, and reporting as necessary.
• Keeps current with trends in emerging technologies and how they could apply to Sun Life.
• Develop and test, working with business and system requirements, and utilizing standard procedures and techniques

Competencies and Qualifications:

• University degree in Computer Science or equivalent
• 1-3 years of progressive information technology experience with full application development life cycle and systems integration experience
• Strong analytical and debugging skills
• Customer and results focused
• Strong analytical skills to understand current functionality of an application and perform tweaks to improve efficiency.
• Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills
• Experience working in a technical team
• Excellent problem analysis and trouble shooting skills
• Excellent communication skills  (written and verbal) – ability to express ideas, thoughts and information so that it can be understood by various audiences and meets the customers’ needs
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Multi-tasker – good energy and attitude to work in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment
• Excellent knowledge of formal software development life cycle methodology

Technical Skills

• Solid understanding of Cobol, IMS/DB2, JCL, PLI, File Aid, Spufi, ISPF and other utilities
• Solid Understanding of Mainframe technology
• MQ Series technologies (preferred)

Assets:

• Knowledge of the financial and insurance industries, specifically insurance business
• LOMA certification.
